Psychology Ball

Friday, 21 March 2014

A year ago, the school of Psychology at my university became a separate school, it had previously been conjoined with the school of Social Work. To celebrate, the department held a massive launch party at the Norwich football stadium. As it was such a success, they have decided to make it into an annual event and last night was the second party. The venue was different and it wasn't as formal, but I had such an amazing time. We had a two course sit down meal, followed by lots of dancing and drinking! I thought I'd write a post about what I wore, how I did my hair and make up.

First of all, as I'm a student I really don't have much money to be splashing out on new dresses. I buy loads of dresses, wear them once and then don't feel that I can wear them again because everyone has seen them. However, I decided to dig out a dress I spontaneously bought in Liverpool about 4 years ago from Dorothy Perkins. I don't normally shop there, but I happened to pop in and I'm so glad I did as I found this gorgeous cream, lace shift dress with a peter pan collar. I wore it to a friends wedding and on a couple of nights out, but apart from that I've barely worn it and so I thought it was about time I dug it out. I teamed it with some black platform wedges that were again a spontaneous purchase (you can tell I'm a spontaneous shopper!) from H&M. I bought them last year and they are the comfiest heels I own, so I wear them a lot!

For my hair, I wanted to keep it quite simple as I didn't have much time between lectures and the ball to get ready. I washed and conditioned my hair and dried it with a roll brush, put curlers in and left them in whilst I did my make up. Once I had done my make up, I took the curlers out which left my hair looking voluminous and then halo braided my hair to complete my look.

With my eye make up, I decided to go for a purple theme as I have two really lovely purple eyeshadows from mac and I thought it would compliment my cream dress and black heels nicely. I used MAC 'Satellite Dreams' as my base shadow and then used MAC's 'Parfait Amour' as the darker shading in the corner of my eyes and through the crease. I also used Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in '25k Gold' in the other corner of my eye to open my eyes up. I then finished my eye make up off with liquid eyeliner on my lid and black pencil liner along the waterline as well as using MAC's 'Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash' mascara to complete my look. I wore Clinique 'Fresh Watermelon' lipstick with MAC's 'Petting Pink' Tinted Lip Conditioner (both of which have now been discontinued!) As it would take me ages to go through all the other make up that I wore, I'll list it below so you have a rough idea of what I used. Also, I reviewed a lot of the products in my previous blog post so check that out if you want to know more about them or how I use them:
