August Favourites

Thursday, 28 August 2014

This is a new feautre post that I'm hoping to do every month in which I'll share with you the things I've been loving throughout the past month, but we all know how much I fail at blogging, so I'll see how it goes. Here is what I've been loving througout August:

1./Lush - Popcorn Lip Scrub
This may seem like a bit of a weird one and when I first heard of this product, I was a bit unsure. However, this past month, it has literally been my favourite beauty product. Working in an air conditioned shop all day, very drying on your skin, especially your lips. When your lips get dry, you get that really horrible dead skin on them and they become all cracked. This lip scrub from Lush is perfect because it gets rid of all the dead skin and because of the coconut and jojoba oils in it, the scrub moisturises your lips at the same time. Also, it's edible so you can lick it off afterwards and it tastes sooo good! I have the popcorn flavour, but you can also get it in Bubblegum and Mint Julips.

2./MAC - Lip Conditioner
This follows on from the previous product and is something that has been in my make up bag for a few years now, but I often forget about it. I was finding that at work, my beloved Body Shop Lip Butter wasn't keeping my lips very moisturised so I wanted to find something that would work better. That's when I stumbled across this and remembered how much I loved it. As well as keeping your lips moisturised throughout the day, it is slightly tinted pink so adds a lovely colour to your lips and is really nicely scented. The most depressing thing about this product is that it is now discontinued:( I have no idea why, but I'm just going to have to make this one last as long as possible.

3./MAC - Studio Fix Boldblack Lash
I have been a fan of 'Maybelline Falsies' mascara for ages now and it featured in one of my previous posts, but I thought it was about time I tried a different everyday mascara. I really like the MAC 'Haute & Naughty' mascara for nights out, but I find it too heavy to use as an everyday mascara so I went into MAC to see what else they had to offer. I knew my mum uses this mascara a lot and so I thought I would try it out. I absolutely love it! It gives just the right amount of volume and curl without looking too heavy for an everyday look.

4./Topshop - Hinge Plate Black Handbag
Now that I work in the centre of Croydon, I'm forever popping into shops, particularly Topshop, before or after a shift. This is proving dangerous because I keep seeing things that I like, but have no money to buy. I spotted this handbag a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it. I really like the Michael Kors Selma Black Tote Bag, but at £315, I have a lot of saving do to before I can afford it. However, this Topshop one looked just like it and at only £40, I couldn't resist, so I treated myself to it as a 'congratulations on getting a new job present'.

5./Topshop - MOTO Denim Borg Western Jacket
Some of you may have seen my Top Ten Topshop Items Post in which I mentioned how much I loved this jacket. Well, Emil certaintly did and surprised me after work one day with it, as a belated graduation present. I was so happy, I don't think I stopped smiling for about 5 hours afterwards, I've worn it so much already and I absoloutely love it. It's so warm and snuggly - thank you Emil!

5./Suits
This is a bit of a random one, but I didn't want this post to be only focusing on fashion and beauty. I first got into Suits the night before my first exam in June (worst time possible) and quickly watched all of the series on Amazon prime. However, this month, I've been watching the fourth series and it is just so good. I try and limit myself to one a night, but sometimes you're left on such a cliffhanger at the end, that it's impossible not to watch the next one. For those who don't know, it's basically an American program about this law firm and different lawsuits etc. It sounds really boring, but it's not at all and for someone who doesn't know the first thing about law, I still really enjoy it. I have recommneded it to at least 3 friends and I know they have all become hooked on it.

What things have you been loving this month? Let me know in the comments below.

Work Clothes Haul

Sunday, 24 August 2014

I've recently got a job at the shoe shop Clarks and the uniform is all black. I already own quite a lot of black clothes, so I didn't think this would be a problem, but it turns out my wardrobe wasn't as well stocked as I thought. This meant that I had an excuse to go shopping and went into H&M because I wanted some cheap, basic black clothes and they had such a good selection; I tried on about 10 items, but restricted myself to only buying 5.

1./Basics Top - £6.99

2./Sheer Sleeveless Top - £14.99

3./Ribbed Jumper - £7.99

4./Skinny Jeans - £12.99

5./Leggings - £14.99

When I was at the till, the lady who served me guessed that it was for work and mentioned how many customers they had who bought their work uniform there, it really is the best place to go for decent work clothes that aren't ridiculously priced. The added bonus, is that when I leave the job, I would sill wear these clothes. So if you're looking for work clothes, I would definitely recommended H&M.

A Day by the Sea

Tuesday, 19 August 2014

After working 10 days straight, I finally had this past weekend off work and I wanted to make the most of it. My nan was visiting us from the midlands for a few days and so I suggested we take her to Brighton for a day out. Brighton is probably my favourite place in England after London and I grew up with it as my second home as my family would often go down for the day come rain or shine. We parked on the outskirts of Brighton in Hove, then walked into the centre of Brighton which is where we saw all the pretty beach huts. We then went on the pier and this was probably my favourite part of the day for one reason and one reason only - I won 'Oleg' on the crane machine. Those who don't know who 'Oleg' is, he's a baby meerkat from the 'Compare the Meerkat' adverts and I am absolutely in love with him. I'd been trying to win him for months and it definitely made my day! We then went and bought a bagel which we ate in the park over looking the Brighton Pavillion. By this time it was mid afternoon and so we decided to head back to the car as we were going it for dinner and wanted to ensure we were back in time. I had such a lovely day, it was so nice to get out and do something other than work.

Body Shop Essentials

Thursday, 14 August 2014

I'm always going on about my love for The Body Shop and so I thought it was about time that I dedicate a post to it and share my 5 favourite products from there. Some of them have featured in previous posts, so sorry if I end up repeating myself.

1./Aloe Calming Facial Cleanser
When it comes to skincare, I'm really bad. I rarely wear foundation so when it comes to taking off make up, I just use baby oil to remove my eye make up and then water on the rest of my face. I'm lucky to have quite clear skin and so am worried about using too many products on my face in case it leads to a massive breakout. However, I knew that when I wore foundation, I needed something to ensure I cleaned it off properly before bed to allow my skin to breathe. Of course, my first stop was The Body Shop. I found this cleanser almost instantly and I loved it. I love Aloe Vera products anyway because they are really soothing on the skin and are not heavily perfumed. Now, whenever I wear foundation, I always use this to wash it off and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and fresh without causing any dreaded spots.

2./Warming Mineral Mask
Having just gone on about how bad I am with skincare, it may seem strange that one of my other favourite produts is a face mask. However, I got this product free with my Body Shop Membership card. It's a warming mask so when you apply it to your face it heats up and opens up your pores. At first, I wasn't sure if I would like the warming sensation on my face, but I actually really do. You apply it to your face once or twice a week and leave it for 5 minutes whilst it dries. You then wash it off and it leaves your skin feeling really smooth and gets rid of all the impurities. This is perfect for someone like me who is really bad with skincare because I only need to use it once a week and so very little effort is involved.

3./Body Butter
This product has definitely feautured in many blog posts before and is undoubtedly my favourite product from The Body Shop. I'm not going to go on about it too much, partly because it's pretty self explnatory and partly because I know I have rambled on about it a lot in the past. I love how it leaves your skin feeling silky soft all day and there are so many different flavours to choose from, that you're bound to find one you love. I'm currently using the mango one as it's so refreshing for the summer months.

4./Lip Butter
Anyone who knows me will know that this is my safety blanket, I refuse to go anywhere without it. I am constantly applying it morning, noon and night. I often wear it under lipstick to keep my lips moustiresed or wear it on top to give a glossy finish to a matte lipstick. A really sad fact about me is that I like my lip butter and body butter to be matching, so I'm currently also using the mango lip butter.

5./Hand Cleanse Gel
This may seem like a bit of a strange one, but I absolutely love the hand cleanse gel. I'm a bit of a clean freak so am forever using a hand sanister before I eat or after I've been on public transport etc, but often find them quite harsh on my hands. However, this cleansing gel from The Body Shop is amazing, it doesn't dry out your hands and it smells so beautiful. Like most of their other products, it comes in a range of flavours, all of which smell incredible. I currently have satsuma and mango (yes it's necessary for me to have more than 1!)

Sorry this post is quite long, but as you can tell, I'm slightly obsessesed with The Body Shop. Let me know in the comments what products you love from The Body Shop or if there's anything you don't like.

Top Ten Topshop Items

Saturday, 2 August 2014

Having just graduated and with no job to go to, I have been really tight for money this last month or two. Luckily, I have just got myself a job which means I will have funds coming in at the end of the month, until now though, I haven't been able to treat myself to any new clothes. However, that hasn't stopped me from browsing around Topshop and lusting over many of the clothes in there. Despite having no money, I've spent a lot of time in town lately, killing time before meeting friends etc and so I thought I would share with you ten items that I've been loving from Topshop and will definitely buy once I have money!

1./ Lace Hem Crop Top - £28
Okay, this is a bit of an exception, I actually bought this crop top for my holiday last month. It is so lovely and goes with so much. Every time I've worn it, I've received so many compliments, one girl even stopped me in the street to ask me where I had got it from!

2./ Daisy Organza Tee - £22
This has been in Topshop for a while now, but I still love it. I even tried it on, but somehow convinced myself that I didn't need it and should save my money. I think this is my favourite item in store at the moment and I really hope it's still in stock once my first pay cheque comes in!

3./ Bardot Crop Top - £10
I love this style of crop top and I so nearly bought this top in black, but they didn't have my size. I know Topshop do it in a range of colours, but it's really plain so will go with a wide variety of skirts/shorts/trousers etc.

4./ Embroided Cutwork Kimono - £45
I bought myself a kimono from Boohoo a few months ago and I really like that they're in fashion at the moment. They can make a really simple outfit stand out and add style to a really plain outfit.

5./ MOTO Utility Denim T-Shirt Dress - £38
This is another item that I've tried on, but I already own a denim dress so couldn't really justify buying another one. I think denim dresses are so lovely for the day and look really effective without having to put too much thought into your outfit.

6./ Petite Folk Border Dress - £42 (Sale - £30)
This dress has been in Topshop for a while now and after admiring it for ages, I tried it on. However, I was really disappointed because it didn't suit my body shape and just hung off of me life a sack. This doesn't stop me from loving it though and I can still admire it on others!

7./ New Ottoman Skort - £32
I really love skorts and I love the design of this one. What I like about them is that you can dress it up for the evening or dress it down if you wanted to wear it during the day.

8./ Mix Tile Print Jersey Tapered Trousers - £28
These trousers are the most comfortable things in the world! Although, I don't own this exact pair, I have the same design, just a different pattern. I spotted this particular pattern when I was in the store earlier this week and loved them, although, I can't justify buying a pair that are so similar.

9./ MOTO Demin Borg Western Jacket - £58
This jacket has been on my wishlist since Christmas! Every time I see it in store, I always try it on and I wish that I could buy it. However, at £58, I can't really justify it, particularly as I already own a denim jacket. I'm hoping it'll stay in stores a while longer so that I can ask for it for my birthday!

10./ Lace Trim Ankle Socks - £3.50
This might seem like a bit of a weird one, but I absolutely love these socks! They are super cute and I probably own about 8 pairs of them. They can really make an outfit seem a lot more fashionable and can liven up a boring outfit. I'm always looking out for different colours to add to my collection!

I hope you liked my ten items and that they give you some inspiration of what to buy/look for when you're next in Topshop. What have you been loving in Topshop this past month or so? Let me know in the comments.
