Disappointing Products

Wednesday, 7 February 2018

As bloggers, we always share positive reviews of products that we love, but what about those products that don’t quite meet our expectations? I often try these products and soon forget about them, forgetting to share my negative experiences. However, I’ve built up a collection of products that I’ve been really disappointed with and before throwing them away, wanted to share them.

This product is probably one of my biggest disappointments. I’d heard such good things about the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, but was warned it could smudge so I may be better off purchasing the waterproof version. Whilst, I can’t complain it smudges, everything else about it hasn’t met my expectations. It’s extremely clumpy and whilst I like a thick mascara, I also like  it to comb through my lashes which this doesn’t. The hourglass wand is very thick which makes it difficult to get to the lashes in the corner of my eyes and comprises fibre bristles which I find never grip my lashes as well. Instead of lengthening my lashes, this just clumps them all together without really adding volume or curl. It’s such a shame because I really want to love this product, but I just don’t.

When I first apply the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara, it gives me everything I need. My lashes look lengthened, volumised and curled, I love it. However, that’s when it starts to go downhill. I can forgive the big wand which again comprises fibre bristles, but what I can’t forgive is the endless smudging. No sooner have I applied this mascara, I’m left with black smudges all under my eyes. I can no longer leave the house with the Legendary Lashes because I just look like I’ve smeared mascara all under my eyes, it’s so disappointing.

I may be doing this product an injustice by including it in a disappointing products post, but I thought it was worth a mention. When I first bought the NARS Velvet Shadow Stick, I really liked it, however, since trying and loving the By Terry Ombré Blackstar, I’ve noticed how much the NARS Shadow Stick falls down. It doesn’t last very long on my eyelid and whilst it looks lovely when applied, it soon disappears. What I think really lets it down is the price tag, I could forgive the fact that it’s not the most long lasting product if it wasn’t £21, but at that price tag you do expect a better quality product.

I originally featured this in a favourites post believe it or not as when I first tried the Benefit Hoola I thought it was the answer to all my contouring problems. Whilst at first it gave me the cheekbones I never thought I had, I soon started to notice that it was wiping off my foundation, leaving me with streaks. I’ve tried applying this more lightly rather than sweeping it across my face, I’ve tried gently blending it in, but nothing seems to work sadly. I’ve found that in general, I’m not very good at using cream products so this could just be me, but I have fallen out of love with the Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick quite quickly.

I recently featured this in a blog post, reviewing a few of the KIKO Smart Nail Lacquers so it’ll come as no surprise to those of you who read that post that I’ve featured this amongst my disappointing products. It chips so easily even with a heavy duty top coat on and it’s not the sort of quality that I’d expect from a brand like KIKO

I’ve realised that this is quite a negative post, but I think it’s important to share the less post I’ve reviews too because they’re just as important!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products and what you thought of them.

  1. This is such a nice idea for a beauty blog post! Most of the time people only review their favorites (I mean, it's natural - everyone likes positivity in life!) but it's interesting to see the other side, too! Especially since makeup preferences can be so individual. <3

  2. I love honest reviews! It’s refreshing because I know not everybody loves every product they ever get!

  3. I love this review! I was actually thinking of buying the too faced better than sex mascara but the price seems a little high for a mascara. Thank you for sharing! xo

    1. Thank you so much! I definitely don’t think it’s worth the price tag unfortunately!
