My Make Up Must Haves

Friday, 14 March 2014

I'm always interested in reading about other products that people use and view as essentials in their make up bags. After trialling many products I'm finally pleased with all the products that I use on a daily basis and thought I would share them with you.

1./Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
Collection is a brand that I'm not very familiar with and haven't used any of their products in years. However, after hearing so many people rave about this concealer I thought it was about time I tried it. I hadn't used concealer since I was about 15 as I preferred using just powder. However, I had to reapply it so much throughout the day as my redness and blemishes would show up pretty quickly, so I decided to give it a go. Now, I have no idea how I coped before having it. I put it under my eyes to cover my dark circles and cover any blemishes or redness on my face. I blend it in with a pointed foundation brush and it gives great coverage all day. I'm really fair so I use it in the shade '1 fair', but there are a range of shades out there for all skin tones.

2./Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
Like concealer I never really used foundation during the day, I only used to use it for nights out, however, I went to the Isle of Wight festival a few years ago and I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep reapplying powder all day, so I thought it was about time I invested in a foundation. At the time this foundation had only just been released and it was receiving so many positive reviews that I thought I would give it a try. I still don't wear it all the time, I just wear it on days when I'm going out somewhere nice or I'm going to be busy all day, but I really do love it. It sits so lightly on the skin and doesn't clog up the skin at all. I have it in the shade100 Ivory (pale skin problems!), but I find I don't need that much as it provides great coverage across my whole face.

3./Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
This product has been in my make up bag for as long as I can remember, it's my 'go to' product! As mentioned, I used to just wear this on it's own, but now I always wear it on top of concealer and use it to set my foundation when I wear it. It stays on my face a lot longer than many other powders and it is just such a reliable product. I have it in the colour 004 Sandstorm as I find this is not only the right colour for my skin when I wear it on it's own, but it also doesn't make me look orange when I put it on top of foundation.

4./Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder
I wrote about this product in a previous blog post so I won't go on about it too much now. However, I am still absolutely loving this product as it adds such warmth to my pale skin and it smells soo delicious! From having never worn bronzer until last year, I now wear it all the time!

5./Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoos
Again, I've written about these in a previous blog post, so for my full thoughts on this product go and check that post out. What I will mention though, is that I now wear this everyday in the colour 'Pink Gold', sometimes I'll wear it under other eyeshadows, but for my everyday basic make up I wear it on it's own. It just adds a bit of colour to my eyes without looking over dressed for a day at uni.

6./L'Oreal Super Liner - Black Lacquer
Having tried so many different eyeliners over the years, I've finally found one that I love. I use it almost everyday to produce my winged eyeliner effect and it is perfect for this. It stays on all day and never smudges into the crease of my eye. Quite often if I want a lighter eye make up look then I will just wear MAC's Eye Kohl in 'Teddy', but most of the time I use the L'Oreal Super Liner as it makes my eyes more defined.

7./Maybelline Falsies Mascara
This is probably the newest product I've tried, but I'm already on my third mascara! I'm currently using the 'black drama' one and I prefer this to the waterproof and 'flared' mascara. For the price, it is such a good mascara, it adds volume to my lashes as well as curling them without making them look clumpy - not many mascaras manage this! Although I use MAC's Haute & Naughty mascara for nights out as it adds a lot more volume to my lashes, I find that it's too much for an everyday make up look and so I much prefer Maybelline's flasies mascara and I can't see this changing any time soon!

8./MAC Powder Blush
Interestingly, it was my mum who not only introduced me to MAC, but this product. She has been using their products for years and as I got more and more interested in make up, she would increasingly treat me to some of their products. I was lucky enough to be given this for Christmas as I was looking to try a new blusher and she recommended this to me. As I have such fair skin, I need a blusher that not only adds colour, but that isn't too pigmented otherwise I end up looking like a china doll! I have this blusher in 'style' and it is perfect for my skin tone, whilst it makes my cheeks look nice and rosy I don't end up look like I have ridiculously pink cheeks. I will definitely be buying this product again.

9./The Body Shop Lip Butter
I have written about my love for The Body Shop in many of my blog posts and so it is only right that one of their products features in this one. However, I literally would not be able to live without my lip butter. I have the Shea Butter one (of course!) and I take it everywhere with me. If I could only have one piece of make up for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this. It adds moisture to my lips whenever they're dry and it adds a nice shine to them without adding colour. This means that if I want to wear a lipstick over the top, I can, without the two products clashing with each other! I couldn't recommend this enough!

I feel like this has been a mammoth blog post, so I am sorry for rambling. Also, I have written this in the order in which I apply each product. Therefore, if you want to try one of them, you have a bit of an idea when I apply it and what I use before and after. I would love to know what products you view as your essentials, so leave your comments below.
