By some small miracle, I graduated from the University of East Anglia with a First Class (Hons) degree in Psychology. I never in a million years thought I was going to get a first, but I managed to do well in my exams so it brought my averages up. I had such an amazing day, I graduated at 9.30, so it meant I had to collect my gown by 7.30! I was so nervous about falling up/down the stairs or that my mortar board would fall off, but in the end, everything went really smoothly. After the ceremony, I had lots of photos, followed by a drinks reception and then out for lunch with my family and Emil.

We have blue gowns, black mortar boards and a green hood, so it didn't leave me with much choice for my dress. I didn't want a colour that would clash with any of those, so opted for cream. My dress was from House of Fraser and I teamed it with a pair of black strapped heels from Clarks. I've had these heels for ages and haven't worn them for years. I bought them about 5 years ago as they were £15 down from £60 and even at the age of 16 I couldn't resist cheap heels. Although, I rarely wear them now, they were perfect for graduation because the heel wasn't too high (reducing the chance of tripping) and the straps made sure I wasn't going to step out of them whilst shaking the Chancellors hand!

I kept my make up pretty simple and natural, partly because I didn't have too much time to do it and I didn't want to look too 'made up'. These are the products I used:

-Primer - MAC Prep + Prime 'Skin Base Visage'
-Concealer - Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 'Light 2'
-Foundation - Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse in '005 Porcelain'
-Powder - Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in '004 Sandstorm'
-Bronzer (and contouring) - Bourjois Delice de Poudre in '52'
-Highlighter - Body Shop
-Blusher - MAC Powder Blush in 'Style'
-Eyeshadow Primer - Urban Decay 'Eden'
-Eyeshadow - Urban Decay Naked Palette - Sin for the base shadow and Buck for the crease
-Liquid eyeliner - L'Oreal Super Liner Black Lacquer
-Eyebrows - MAC Eyeshadow in 'Omega'
-Lips - Tanya Burr Lip gloss in 'Afternoon Tea'

I can't quite believe I've finally graduated, congratulations to anyone who also graduated this year and good luck to those who are about to begin their degrees!

A Sophisticated Weekend Away

Tuesday, 15 July 2014

I've just come back from the most fun weekend I've had in a very long time. It's the year where all my friends are turning 21 and whilst it's been a lot of fun celebrating with them, it has become a bit 'same-y', what with pre drinks followed by a messy night out, resulting in a horrific hang over the next day. However, my friend Charlotte turns 21 later this week and so invited 7 of us to her family's holiday cottage in Sussex for a weekend of fun, wine, food and more wine. It was so nice to get away from the busy life that I have here in Croydon and to catch up with all my girlfriends whom I haven't seen in a long time due to university.

On the Friday night, we had a lovely meal followed by Legally Blonde (typical bunch of girls) and all settled for an earlyish night as we were all exhausted. On Saturday we went to West Wittering Beach which was so much fun, it's such a sandy beach and the weather was so beautiful that I was able to top up my tan from Cyprus. It was so fun to go to the beach with them, it was like we were on holiday together. When we arrived back at the cottage, we all dressed up nicely for Charlotte's birthday meal which involved lots of wine and two birthday cakes as well as a three course meal! It's safe to say that we were all well and truly stuffed afterwards. In a stereotypical girly way, we voted to watch Sex And The City, which I am ashamed to say I have never seen before and after many 'freak outs' over a few spiders we had encountered, we finally went to sleep. We travelled back on the Sunday and I was so upset to come home, I'd had such an amazing weekend away and it was so lovely to do something really different.

Yogi Hair Wand

Wednesday, 9 July 2014

You've all heard me go on about for ages how my hair is dead straight and I can never do anything with it. I've tried curlers, rollers and straighteners, all in an attempt to curl my hair. Generally, these have all failed and my hair always drops soon after. A few months ago my friend let me borrow her curling wand, I'd never tried a wand on my hair and it created the most amazing curls which lasted until I washed my hair later the next day. From then on I was on the search for a curling wand. Being a student, I was trying to find the cheapest one I could, but I knew I needed a high quality one in order for the curls to actually stay. I found the Yogi Hair Wand on amazon for only £40 and it's literally the best £40 I have ever spent.

The wand is so versatile as wrapping large sections of hair around the wand can create waves, however, wrapping smaller sections of hair around the wand will create tighter curls. I tend to use this technique as the curls last longer and gradually drop throughout the day to leave really beautiful waves. I would definitely recommend this wand for all hair types, it comes in a range of colours (I got gloss black) it also comes with a heat proof glove which is so handy as I'm forever burning myself.

Let me know if you've tried this wand and what your thoughts are on it?

I've just got back from a lovely 2 weeks in Cyprus with my family. I think it'll probably be our last family holiday as hopefully I'll have a job by next year and my brother probably won't go away with just my parents. The weather was ridiculously hot whilst we were over there so a lot of the time was spent in the pool. However, we did do some exploring and visited the Baths of Aphrodite which, apparently, if you bathe in the water you will have eternal beauty. Also, it was my brother's birthday whilst we were away so we went on a boat trip and went out for a really lovely meal at a fancy restaurant. On the boat trip we got to swim in a part of the bay called the 'Blue Lagoon' (it features in one of the photos above), it was absolutely gorgeous. We visited the main town near us called Paphos and experienced a bit of culture as we walked around some ancient ruins. Having just finished my exams it was really lovely to just get away from England and to have a nice relaxing break. Now it's back to job hunting and praying someone will employ me!
