Things That Made Me Happy | September #1

Having spent the last 3 years of my life at university, I have become accustomed to enjoying the high life; lie ins, no responsibility, independence and lots of socialising. However, the last month or so, I've come crashing back to reality with a full time job and adjusting to living back home with my parents. I began to feel really fed up and wasn't appreciating the good things around me, such as seeing friends after work and spending time with my family. So, throughout September, I'm challenging myself to find one thing a day that really made me happy or made my day. Far too often, I think we take life for granted and get hung up on the negatives without paying attention to the positives, so here are the things that made me happy this week.

I had a really busy weekend last week and having worked 9-5 on Monday, I was so grateful for a quiet night in. My brother went back to uni and my parents were out, so I had the house to myself. As sad as this sounds, I was really happy to have a bit of piece and quiet. I put my feet up, watched corrie with a mug of green tea and just chilled after a busy day at work.

I went out for dinner with a group of friends from work which was really lovely. I haven't been working at Clarks for very long, so it was a great way to get to know my colleagues and have a laugh outside of work.

After work, I met up with a friend who I used to work with before I went to uni. We hadn't seen each other in about 5 months due to work/uni commitments and so, it was great to have a proper catch up with her and update each other on our lives.

I had the day off work which was really lovely, though it meant doing chores around the house. However, I went out for drinks in the evening with some friends who I went to Sixth Form with, I haven't laughed as much as I did that night in such a long time. It was so lovely to see them all again and it really cheered me up after a busy week at work.

Having worked 9-5 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, it was really lovely to just do a morning shift on Friday. It meant I could come home and clean my car, which was in desperate need of a wash. Also, I cooked dinner for my parents which I really think they appreciated, it was nice to be able to give them something back as they're always cooking for me/cleaning up after me.

Mum was at a friends wedding so I came home from work to a three course meal cooked by my dad. It was such a lovely meal and nice to just chill with him as we rarely spend any time just the two of us. After dinner we watched 'Rain Man' which was really good and I painted my nails - a perfect Saturday night in.

Although I worked in the afternoon, I went out for dinner with a group of friends. Some of them are going back to university to complete their degrees so it was nice to have a final goodbye. We always have so much fun together and it was good to catch up with them after a busy week at work.

What has been making you happy this week? Let me know in the comments.
