The Body Shop Advent Calender | 2015

Wednesday, 30 December 2015

I was very lucky to receive The Body Shop advent calender again this year and have been loving it even more than I did last year. However, as with last years post, we'd be here all year if I took you through all of the products, so I thought I'd share my top 5 with you. (Click here to read last year's post).

Okay, these technically count as two because I got them on separate days, but as they're the same scent I thought I'd put them under one! I absolutely love this range from The Body Shop, it's fairly new to the shop which is why I was so happy when I received them in my calendar as they're never in any deals at The Body Shop. They smell amazing and are definitely a great addition to my products from The Body Shop

I was so pleased to receive these. Just a couple of days before, I had asked for some new eyelash curlers for Christmas as the springs in my last ones had gone, so it was perfect timing. I curl my lashes everyday, so this is a must have in my make up bag!

We all know how bad my skincare routine is, but I do cleanse every night. I never bother to buy toner as I don't really feel that it makes a difference to my skin, however, when I tried this I really did like it. It does leave my skin feeling that bit more fresh after cleansing and wipes off any make up that the cleanser missed, so maybe now I'll consider buying a full sized version once this one runs out.

Again, this is part of a new range at The Body Shop this year so I was so happy to receive it in the calender. It's a light scent so it'll be perfect for work whilst I save my more expensive perfumes for other occasions.

I was quite surprised when I received this as I have never used an eye gel before so wasn't too sure what to do with it. I read some reviews online and I apply it most nights before bed. Though I haven't noticed a dramatic change in the skin under my eye, it does help them to feel refreshed after a busy day or a heavy make up day.

I loved The Body Shop advent calender again this year and now have enough products to see me through the year. There were quite a few duplicates from last year, however, it was great to be able to sample some products that I haven't tried before. Though definitely a little pricey, I would recommend it for next year, there's a wide range of products and they're perfect for the year ahead!

2015 | Review

Monday, 28 December 2015

2015 has been a really full on year. I had two amazing holidays; one to New York and the other to Turkey with Emil. I managed to complete my masters in forensic psychology with a distinction, Emil moved to London and I started my first ever full time job. However, I've had some not so good times too as my nan hasn't enjoyed the best of health this year, which proved really difficult as she lives 150 miles away, as well as the stress of writing two dissertations and other family issues, however, whilst I look back on 2015 with mixed emotions, I'm feeling really positive for 2016.

For the past few years, I've set myself some goals to try and achieve throughout the year. I always think it's good to have something to work towards. So how did I do with achieving the goals I set myself for 2015? (Click here to read the original post).

1./Complete my Masters
I did it!! I completed my masters! I remember sitting and writing my post last year thinking there was no way I'd ever finish my masters, I really couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, I persevered and by some miracle I managed to graduate with a distinction. Graduating from Canterbury Cathedral is an experience I'll never forget.

2./Start my Career
I remember feeling so lost last year, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, whilst I was studying for a masters in forensic psychology, I knew that wasn't the path I wanted to take. However, I have now landed myself my dream job! As I was studying for my masters, I realised it was the research side of things that I really enjoyed and so I started looking at working in Market Research. I applied for a few jobs and was very lucky to be offered the first one I interviewed for. Having been there for about 4 months now, I absolutely love it! My team are so lovely and I really do enjoy the work I do. It's sooo nice to finally have a routine in my life.

3./Move Out
I didn't quite achieve this one - I'm still living at home as it just hasn't been possible for me to move out. I don't have the money at the moment, however, I'm definitely hoping to achieve this goal next year!

4./Do more consistent exercise
I have partially achieved this one. I bought a HIT training exercise DVD in February and got really good at doing it 2-3 times a week. However, since starting my new job, I have let it slip a bit as I'm so busy and when I do come straight home from work, I'm just too tired. Having said that, I have managed to keep it up about once a week.

5./Get 100 Followers on Bloglovin
I haven't quite achieved this one either. My blog has definitely taken a bit of a back seat over the past few months. I've just been so busy with work and then when I'm not working, I don't really fancy sitting at another computer so I definitely haven't put the effort in that I should have, but hey I guess that's what happens when you become a full time city worker! It's definitely something I still want to work towards.

Do you set any goals? If you do, let me know how you got on this year.

December Favourites

Now that I have a full time job, I have a lot more money to be able to spend on beauty products and little treats, so I have plenty of favourites this month, but managed to narrow it down to 5.

If you're a regular follower of my blog, you'll know I'm forever searching to find the perfect foundation and I think I've finally found it. I absolutely love the Infallible 24H foundation from L'Oreal, I've been wearing the shade 015 Porcelain and it's the perfect shade for my skin tone. It blends so easily into my skin and leaves a flawless finish as well as lasting all day. I went to repurchase a second bottle of it a couple of weeks ago, but they've told me they've discontinued my shade which I'm so annoyed about, so the hunt for my perfect foundation continues!!

I couldn't not include one of my Zoeva brushes in this months favourites post! I am absolutely in love with these brushes (see my full post on them here) and so had to include at least one. I definitely think this is my favourite one from the collection, it blends my foundation so effortlessly without leaving any streaks - I love it!

I was very lucky to receive this product as part of a gift set given to me at work. I've never used a hot cloth cleanser before and wasn't too sure how it worked before, but after reading the instructions I soon got used to it. It's so relaxing and leaves my skin feeling so clean and fresh after having used it. I really enjoy it as an alternative to a normal cleanser or exfoliater- I would definitely recommend it.

I don't want to go into too much detail in this post because I have a post all about this calender coming very soon! However, I couldn't not include this in my December favourites seeing as I've been getting a present everyday from it, I've been loving it. Although some are very similar to last year, you can never have too many products from The Body Shop!

I have wanted a pair of heeled ankle Boots for ages, but never found any that I like either the heel was too high or too low or I didn't like the leather finish. However, I was determined to find a pair for my Christmas do and I finally found a pair from H&M which I love, they're the prefect heel height and are the best way to dress up an outfit for an evening out.

Let me know what you've been loving this December.

An Evening at Winter Wonderland

Wednesday, 23 December 2015

Last night, Emil and I went to Winter Wonderland and I thought it was too good a blogging opportunity to miss. I hadn’t planned a blog post and because I came straight from work, I only had my point and shoot on me, so please excuse the quality of the photos. Also, it was really rainy which didn’t help either. However, we had such a lovely time! I haven’t been to Winter Wonderland in a few years, so I was so surprised when I saw how big it is, it has definitely grown over the years. I really wanted to go with Emil last year, but we ran out of time so I made sure we went this year as he has never been before. We went after work, so it was dark and the lights made it look so beautiful. We walked around the cute German markets, looked at all the rides, watched people ice skate and ate curry wurst and Belgian waffles. I would have loved to have gone on some of the rides, but they were so expensive. Just being at Winter Wonderland is an experience in itself, it was so pretty and made me feel so Christmassy!

Have you been to Winter Wonderland? Let me know in the comments below.

10 Things I Love about Christmas

Sunday, 20 December 2015

Anyone who knows me, knows how excited I get about Christmas, I absolutely love it so I thought I'd share my top 10 reasons with you (though there's many more!)

1./The Christmas Spirit
Everyone seems to be so much happier around Christmas, everyone gets into the festive spirit and are up for having fun, people are cheery and a lot less grumpy!

2./The Food
It's no surprise to people who know me that I have a sweet tooth and at Christmas, there's so much chocolate around and it's totally acceptable to eat as much as you like.

3./Christmas Jumpers
The one time of year when it's okay for everyone to wear garish clothes and the more outrageous the better! They're so much fun and helps share the Christmas spirit.

4./Christmas Songs
They're super cheesy and easy to sing along to, so what's not to love? As soon as December 1st comes, I start blaring out the Christmas tunes - they never get old!

I don't think I'll have much time to bake this year, but I love baking around Christmas time, gingerbread men and mince pies are a favourite to bake (despite hating the taste of mince pies).

6./The smell of Christmas Tree
I know this is a bold statement, but I genuinely think the smell of Christmas tree is the best smell ever! Every year we get a real tree and it just smells incredible, nothing beats it!

7./The Lights
Everywhere looks so pretty at Christmas as it's all lit up, I used to love watching our local Christmas lights being switched on every year when I was younger.

8./Family time
For me, Christmas is all about family. Every year, we spend it as a family, whether that be just the four of us or with extended family, but for me it's such a special time. It's more important to me now that my brother is at uni as its nice to have him home and be a united family again.

I LOVE Christmas parties. I had my first proper work one this year, which I absolutely loved. However, I've had many in the past with friends, uni societies and youth group etc. I love having an excuse to dress up and indulge myself with more food!

10./The presents
Obvs! Who doesn't love presents? Of course I love receiving them, but I actually get a lot of enjoyment out of giving them. I love putting a lot of thought into thinking about what people would like, wrapping them all nice and then there's nothing better than seeing the persons face light up when they open a present you put a lot of thought and effort into (providing they like it!)

Let me know in the comments what you love about Christmas, I'd love to know. I hope you all have a lovely Christmas!

Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Set Vol.1

Thursday, 10 December 2015

I was very lucky to receive the complete set of vol.1  Zoeva brushes for my birthday from my boyfriend (ultimate boyfriend points). I know these brushes are all over the blogging world, so I don't want to go into too much detail about them and bore you all, but I thought I'd share my top 5 with you.

1./103 Defined Buffer
At first, I thought I'd be using this for highlighter across the top of my cheek bone. However, having looked on the Zoeva website, they actually recommended it for foundation and I'm so glad I saw this, it is honestly the best foundation brush I've tried. Ever. It applies foundation so well, blends into the skin effortlessly and leaves a flawless finish without any streaks, I honestly can't see myself using any other foundation brush from now on.

2./322 Brow Line
I'd always used the Real Techniques angled brush for my eyebrows and never had any complaints, however since trying the one from Zoeva, I definitely prefer it. The shorter bristles means that it's perfect for getting more accurate strokes and it fills my brows in much easier than the one from Real Techniques.

3./230 Luxe Pencil
I love this brush! I've wanted one for a while that I can use in the inner corner of my eye for a light eye shadow to open up my eye and I finally found it, it's a perfect size and the density of the brush is just right as it's not too harsh for this delicate part of your eye, but it's dense enough to apply the product well.

4./127 Luxe Sheer Cheek
At first I wasn't as sure on this one as I thought it didn't apply blusher as well as the blush brush form Real Techniques, but I love it now. It's a lot smaller, but because it's slightly angled, it's the perfect shape for my cheek bone and applies this blusher really well!

5./142 Concealer Buffer
I've wanted a decent concealer brush for ages as I've yet to find one that I love and I think I've now found it. I love this concealer brush, it applies product so well and really helps concealer to cover up any blemishes. It's perfect for under eye bags as its small enough to blend around the eye.

So those are my top 5 brushes, but I do love the whole set. Not only are the rose gold handles a favourite among many including me, the brushes themselves are just sooo soft. Also, the little bag that they come with is sooo cute and perfect for carrying brushes around in your bag. I do see why there is so much hype around these brushes, they really are amazing!

Do you have any Zoeva brushes? Let me know your thoughts about them in the comments below.
