Marrakech | Morocco

My friends and I decided we needed a well deserved break from our busy lives and booked a trip to Marrakech for four nights. It was so lovely and refreshing to get away and whilst we did do a lot of exploring, we made sure we had plenty of time to chill too.

After settling into our amazing apartment (which came with a lady who made us breakfast everyday!!) we ventured into the centre for a late lunch and a nosey around the souks. We had a lovely lunch, overlooking the streets of Marrakech, though we were constantly bothered by cats (with one even having the audacity to pee on Emily's bag!!). Afterwards, we went through the square which was starting to come alive for the night and had a meander around the souks. It took a while to acclimatise to the culture as we were hassled quite a bit. We then decided to have a drink in a restaurant overlooking the square, which was so stunning and offered some beautiful views of Marrakech at night.

We decided to take a trip into the Atlas Mountains as they are only about an hour out of Marrakech. We stopped at a pottery shop on the way and watched how they made it before buying gifts to take home to loved ones. Also, we stopped at an Argon oil shop, again having the opportunity to watch it being made and sampling some of their products. Once we made it into the villages in the mountains, we met our guide who took us up to the waterfalls. It was a little scary at times as the rocks were slippery, but it was well worth it as the views were beautiful. There were lots of photo opportunities and once we got back down to the villages, we had a lovely lunch by the stream. We then headed home, chilled for a bit and then went out to dinner at a restaurant called 'Mama Afrika' for dinner.

As this was to be the hottest day we decided to visit La Jardin Majorelle which are some stunning gardens that used to be owned by Yves Saint Laurent. I think this was my favourite part of the holiday as the gardens were so gorgeous, as was the weather. Emily then navigated us back into the centre of Marrakech for another wander through the souks and for some lunch at a restaurant recommended by Anna. We then visited a beauty salon with the plan to book in for a manicure the next day, however, it soon escalated and some of us opted for a full massage instead! We then headed back to the apartment for some down time before heading out to a creperie for dinner.

This was our last full day in Marrakech. We'd been recommended to visit La Maison de la Photographie as it's terrace had the best views of Marrakech. However, our journey there didn't go quite to plan. The taxi driver dropped us in completely the wrong place, meaning that we had to navigate our way through the souks. This proved particularly hard as donkeys, motorbikes, bicycles and cars caused a few bottles necks resulting in us getting a bit stuck. However, once we'd made it out of the souks, a few boys kept trying to direct us as we were a little lost, but it became apparent that they had no idea either. We eventually found it due to the help of this very kind lady. The museum was lovely, though not quite how I'd expected it and the views were pretty, but again, not as great as I'd imagined. We had a few drinks on the terrace and headed into the souks for some shopping which involved much bartering - which Anna definitely won the prize for. Next, we went to have our respective treatments at the beauty salon, Anna and I had a massage whilst Zoe and Em had a manicure. I was a little apprehensive about my massage, but my worries were soon put aside as it was so relaxing and just what I needed. We then headed home to freshen up before heading back into the centre for our last night in Marrakech. We had dinner on this lovely terrace overlooking the square. It proved to be a very interesting dinner as the waiter was really rude one minute and then laughing at us the next - it was definitely a meal to remember. After a spot of last minute shopping, we headed back to our apartment for the last time.

I had such an amazing few days, filled with so much fun and laughter. It was just what I needed, to have a break away from my busy life. I would really recommend Marrakech as it's such a beautiful city and has plenty to offer.
