Halloween 2016

Sunday, 30 October 2016

As a child, I was never allowed to celebrate Halloween or go 'trick or treating' so now as an adult, I like to get very involved with it. When I found out my friend and her boyfriend were hosting a Halloween party, I was super excited. I had my outfit planned for months and was straight onto Pinterest looking for make up ideas.

Previously, I've celebrated Halloween as a student with a tight budget, so this year I was determined to go all out and buy a costume, rather than piece one together using old clothes etc. I had a look online and decided to go for 'Little Dead Riding Hood' as I hoped it was a bit more original than other typical Halloween fancy dress ideas. Also, I found an amazing make up look that I wanted to recreate, which had claw marks across the face so I thought it would be perfect for a 'Little Dead Riding Hood'.

My outfit was from eBay and I found all the face paint I needed in Tesco, so actually my costume ended up being pretty cheap to put together. For the make up, I wanted to be a bit more creative and use SFX and as I mentioned, I found the perfect 'look' on Pinterest. Firstly, I drew where I wanted the claw marks to go on my face with a pale pink lip liner and then went over the lines with liquid latex. I then stuck strips of tissue onto the latex and continued to blot more latex on. Once it had dried, I use some nail scissors to cut through the tissue, to create 'cuts' on my face. I must admit, I was a bit nervous at this stage as I was worried I'd cut through to my skin! Luckily, it was fine and I then placed a small amount of black face paint inside each cut to give it some depth. I then went over it in red and painted the rest of the cuts red, to cover over the white of the tissue paper. Finally, I added some fake blood into each of the cuts to make it a little more realistic. Also, I placed some blood dribbling out of my mouth and along my neck as if it had been split open. I completed my look with MAC's D for Danger Lipstick. Although my make up didn't look as good as the one on Pinterest, I was pretty pleased with it for a first attempt!

Despite me telling my boyfriend my costume idea, he had kept his as a surprise,so I was really impressed when he turned up as the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood! I had such a fun night and absolutely loved dressing up, I wish it happened more than once a year!

Let me know what your thoughts on my make up!
