Urban Decay Naked Heat | Review

Wednesday, 23 August 2017

It’s been pretty hard to miss the release of Urban Decay’s latest palette – Naked Heat. As a beauty lover and also an Urban Decay Naked fan, I was really excited to hear of its release a few months ago. Urban Decay originally released the Naked Heat palette on their website and I had one in my basket, but couldn’t go through with the purchase because I was really worried that the shades wouldn’t suit me – biggest mistake of my life! Eventually, they came out in stores and I was able to swatch them. As the shades have orange / red undertones, I wondered how this would look on my skin. However, after swatching them, I was more in love than ever and went ahead and bought a palette.

For those who don’t know, the Naked Heat palette has 12 eyeshadows with 8 matte colours and 4 shimmer shades. I like to use a mix of shimmer and matte shades so this palette works well for me. There are a range of colours and from left to right the shades are:

  1. Ounce
  2. Chaser
  3. Sauced
  4. Low Blow
  5. Lumbre
  6. He Devil
  7.  Dirty Talk
  8. Scorched
  9. Cayenne
  10. En Fuego
  11. Ashes
  12. Ember
The shades are all very warm colours and are definitely a little out of my comfort zone, but it’s really encouraged me to experiment with different looks and I’ve been loving doing so.

What do I think of the Urban Decay Naked Palette?

As with all Urban Decay Naked eyeshadows, the pigmentation of these eyeshadows is amazing – definitely some of the best I’ve tried. I really don’t find I have to apply much product to achieve a really pigmented look. I have found that these shades are a little harder to blend than some of the other Naked palettes, but I’m not sure if this is because it’s been a while since I tried a brand new Urban Decay palette. I don’t find that there’s much fall out from these eyeshadows, though I do find some of the matte shades a little chalky.

I always apply Urban Decay’s eyeshadow primer potion and with this, I find that the eyeshadows last all day, without smudging or disappearing off my eyelid. Even without a primer, these eyeshadows are super long lasting.

Urban Decay have definitely upped their game with their packaging. With each Naked palette they've brought out, the packaging has got better. This is the most premium of them all, made of strong plastic and with a huge mirror - the mirrors have definitely got bigger too! This packaging is definitely more sturdy and looks as though it's also really protective - I'm still super careful when handling it though as I don't want to damage it.The brush that this comes with is also really good. I'm not normally a fan of brushes that come with eyeshadow palettes as I don't find that they're that good. However, the Urban Decay ones are always really good and I love using them. This one is slightly different to the other two I already have (Naked and Naked 3), but it's still just as good!

At £39.50 it's not the cheapest palette in the world, but it's in line with the other Naked pallets and for the quality, I really don't think you can go far wrong. Yes, it's a bit on the pricier side, but it's so worth it as the shades are absolutely gorgeous, the pigmentation is so good, so you don't need to use a lot of product which means you'll definitely end up having this palette for a while. Since getting it, I can't stop using it, it's definitely good value for money.

Overall, I've been loving this palette and can't recommend it enough. As I mentioned, initially it was really out of my comfort zone as the shades aren't the sort of colours I typically use. However, I'm really glad I took the plunge and bought it as it really is stunning and it's good to go out of your comfort zone every so often right?

Have you tried the Urban Decay Naked palette? I'd love to know your thoughts!

Trying AVON Products

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

As a beauty lover, I'm quite ashamed to admit that I've never tried any AVON products. They're just a brand that I've never considered before, although I've heard good things about their products, I've never been desperate enough to try a product. However, recently I was given a few products to try and I was really keen to see what they were like.

I love black eyeliners and have so many from different brands, so they've got to be really good for me to continuing using them. I like how easy this eyeliner from AVON is to apply, it glides onto my waterline really easily and is really comfy to wear. Whilst, I like eyeliners that you don't have to sharpen as it lessens the hassle, I do prefer the feel of an eye pencil, I find them easier to apply and find that they last longer. The True Colour Glimmerstick doesn't last as long as some of the other eyeliners I've tried, but at £6.99, it's a really good eyeliner, definitely one of the best value eyeliners I've tried.

I'm always on the look out for new hair products and so when I saw I'd been given a hair serum, I was super excited to try it. I've never used a hair serum before, but have always been keen to try one. I apply this to towel dried hair and have really noticed a difference in my hair. It looks more healthy and prevents fly aways. Also, it smells really good and is super easy to apply, I'm definitely going to carry on using this as I love it so much.

You're probably looking at the above picture and thinking something along the lines of 'that's a mascara?!' Yup! That was my exact reaction when I first saw it as I thought it looked like a paint brush! I must admit, I was very sceptical as I wasn't sure how easy it would be to apply and what results it would give me. However, after having tried it, I really like it. It's a lot easier to apply than it looks (though I do struggle a bit on my bottom lashes), but it leaves my lashes looking really volumised and lengthened. I have been really impressed. I wouldn't say it replaces any of my old faves, but it's definitely worth a try if you're looking for a cheaper mascara, that's really portable.

I love nail polishes and have an eclectic range, so I was interested to see what a nail polish from AVON  would offer. I really liked the brush as I found it applies the polish really neatly. Also, it's really long lasting, I applied a bottom and top coat and it was still going strong after a week (and that included me cleaning the flat which I always find chips nail polish). I love the shade, it comes out slightly differently to how it looks in the bottle, but the gel finish looks really good and actually looks quite professional.

Having never tried AVON products before, I now can't believe what I've been missing out on! They're really good quality and such good value for money, I'm definitely going to check out more AVON products as I've been so impressed!

Have you tried any AVON products? I'd love to know your thoughts!

My Top 3 Concealers

Sunday, 6 August 2017

There are so many concealers available and often it can be overwhelming as to which ones to try. Having tried a few, I’ve finally found 3 that I absolutely love and use on a regular basis, so thought I’d share with you.

I thought I’d get this one out of the way with first because it’s the obvious one. Everyone has at least heard of this concealer, if not tried it. At £4.19 it’s the best value concealer available, not only is it so cheap, it offers the most coverage I’ve ever come across from a drug store concealer. I prefer to use the Light (1) shade for most of the year and then I move onto Medium (2) when I have a bit of colour in the summer. I use it to brighten under my eyes and also cover any blemishes which it’s amazing at doing! The only thing that’s annoying about this concealer is the shade range as it’s so limited. I believe they’ve now extended it to include a cool and warm medium, but I still think they could do with more shades.

This is my most recent concealer purchase. Having seen so many other bloggers / YouTubers raving about it I decided it was worth trying. However, at £8.99 it is a little pricier than Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I really like how creamy this concealer is, if a little freaked out by the spongey applicator! That’s one thing that put me off buying it as I wasn’t sure how hygienic the sponge was, however, I’m glad I got over this as it’s amazing at brightening my eyes. I apply it using the sponge attached and then blend with a beauty blender. I find I only use the Eraser Eye Concealer under my eyes (surprise, surprise!), rather than on any blemishes. I’m not sure if other’s use it elsewhere on their face, but for me I don’t find the coverage as great on spots. Again, the shade range isn’t great I use Light, and there are only 3 other shades so it’s very limited.

This is my favourite high end concealer I’ve ever tried. Again, this is another really creamy concealer and has amazing coverage, it’s great for brightening the dark circles under my eye, but also for covering blemishes. At £19, it’s much pricier than the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and the Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer so I tend to only use it at the weekends / nights out, rather than as an everyday concealer. The shade range for the Urban Decay Naked Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is much more comprehensive compared to the other two, so they definitely cater to more skin tones. As with all my concealers I have the lightest one they do which is Fair Neutral and it’s a perfect match. Also, I love the smell of this concealer!

So they’re my top 3 concealers, I know they’re a pretty popular three, but I can’t recommend them enough. What are your favourite concealers?

Hand Luggage Essentials

Tuesday, 1 August 2017

It's that time of year where everyone is jetting off for some warmer weather elsewhere and panicking over what to pack and what not to bother taking away. There are a few essentials that I always take in my hand luggage, no matter how long the flight is, you always need those few necessities to help get you through it.

1./Lip Balm
I often suffer with dry lips and particularly when flying as the atmosphere is so drying. This is a must for me because I literally couldn't last the flight without it, I'm constantly applying lip balm, just to nurse my lips through the flight! My favourite is my trustee Nuxe Reve de Miel, it goes everywhere with me!

Following on from the lip balm, I always like to take a moisturiser for my face as I can find that sometimes my skin suffers when I'm flying. I typically just take a small moisturiser from The Body Shop as they're travel friendly and I know they'll help hydrate my skin.

3./Hand cream
I always carry handream with me and so flying is no different, I hate having dry hands so it goes everywhere with me. Again, I typically use one from The Body Shop as I love the scents and they leave my hands feeling so silky soft.

This is less of a necessity for me and I tend to only take wipes on long haul flights to help refresh my skin. When I have a long flight, I don't like to wear a lot of make up, so often I will take wipes to remove any make up I'm wearing during the flight and to help hydrate my skin.

5./Eye gel
Similarly, I only take an eye gel for long haul flights as this is when I feel I need it the most. I like to apply an eye gel just before I land to help refresh my eyes and to make me feel more awake! Often I can feel really groggy after a long haul flight and this always shows on my eyes, so an eye gel is vital for making me look more human!

I barely take any journey without my headphones, I love listening to music / podcasts and so flying is no different. Whilst I tend to use earphones on a day to day basis, I find headphones, such as my ones from Sony, so much more comfortable for flying as they don't hurt my ears as much.

I love reading and flying is the perfect time for me to catch up on my book. I find it so relaxing and it's such a good way to pass the time, especially if there's no on board entertainment!

8./Eye mask
I often fall asleep with an eye mask on. I find it really hard to sleep if there's light and this is particularly problematic when I'm flying. Therefore, I often choose to wear an eye mask, to help block out any light and then I'm much more likely to be able to sleep.

9./Hand gel
Anyone that knows me, knows much I love my antibacterial hand gel, it never leaves my side! There are often so many germs on planes, so I always like to have this on me to ensure my hands are clean and to refresh them if they feel a bit grubby from flying.

As I mentioned earlier, I find the atmosphere so drying on planes and it makes me so thirsty as well. I know airplanes can give you water and sell other drinks, but I much prefer just buying my own large water bottle and then I can have a drink whenever I want.

So these are my essentials for why I'm flying. What do you always have on you when you're flying? I'd love to know!
