Estée Lauder Double Wear | Review

Sunday, 29 October 2017

I’ve yet to find my holy grail foundation and so I’m always on the look out for new products and good product reviews. One foundation that I’ve heard nothing, but good things about is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I kept meaning to try it and a couple of months ago, I finally got round to buying it. I've never used any  Estée Lauder products before and so I was intrigued to see what the famous Double Wear Foundation would be like.

What do I think about it?

I have quite an uneven skin tone so I love high coverage foundations as I find they help even out my skin tone and cover up all my blemishes and redness. This foundation is perfect for me as it has a really high coverage, but without feeling really heavy on my skin. What's even better is that you really don't need to use much product to provide a really flawless look and one that will stay in place all day and so I think I'll have this bottle for a while. There's nothing worse than purchasing a more high end foundation and finding that you go through a bottle really quickly.

As I touched on above, this is such a long lasting foundation. Typically, before applying it, I cleanse, use a serum, moisturise and prime and then I find that this is the perfect base for the Estée Lauder Double Wear and it stays in place all day. I've found some foundations oxidise really quickly throughout the day which often leaves my skin looking really patchy, however, the Double Wear provides a flawless look and prevents me from having to top up my make up as the day goes on.

I'm not a massive fan of really thick foundations (which you often find with high coverage foundations), but at the same time I'm not too keen on watery foundations either (I'm hard to please, I know!). However, the Estée Lauder Double Wear is the perfect consistency for me, it's not too runny, but it doesn't feel like I'm plastering it on my face either, it's definitely just right.

I love the premium feel of this packaging. The foundation is in a glass bottle and topped with a gold lid. I love the frosted look to the glass too. My only criticism is that there isn't a pump included which means I have to pour the foundation onto the back of my hand, which isn't ideal as I often end up with excess product on my hand. I wish pumps were included as standard as I think I'm going to have to buy one separately.

At £32 Estée Lauder Double Wear isn't the cheapest foundation available, but for the quality of the product, I think it's really good value for money. Also, it contains SPF 10 which is always handy for someone like me who always burns really easily!

I've been really impressed with Estée Lauder Double Wear and I definitely think it's worthy of all the hype it receives. I don't think many foundations have such a large array of shades as the Estée Lauder Double Wear and so I think it's perfect for so many people. As it is such a high coverage, you do need to ensure that you properly cleanse your face after having worn it as it could clog up pores if you sleep in it. However, this doesn't bother me too much because I always cleanse after taking my make up off anyway.

Have you tried the Estée Lauder Double Wear? I'd love to know your thoughts.

Jack Wills Wool & Whiskey Night

Sunday, 22 October 2017

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the Jack Wills Wool & Whiskey Night to celebrate the launch of their AW17 collection at their Soho store. As someone who never turns down the opportunity to preview the latest fashion trends, I was super excited to go. The night started with a brief overview of some of the whiskies on offer and whilst I'm not a huge whiskey drinker, I had a little sample of one to get me into the spirit (pun intended!) of the evening. As I was sipping away, I started chatting to some fellow bloggers and it was so lovely to meet them. It's not very often that I get the opportunity to meet with others in the blogging community, so we spent ages chatting and enjoying the whiskey and prosecco on offer!

We then took a walk around the store, which is so beautifully decorated. Upstairs, they have neon lights which are a lovely contrast to the rustic feel of the rest of the shop. In their womenswear section, there was an old punch bag and boxing gloves, then downstairs they have 'The Den' and fitting rooms, which is full of up-cycled chairs and tables, with chesterfield sofas and an old record player. The room was lit by copper lamps - a bloggers dream! I love stores that take an interest in the look and feel of their shop, rather than just focus on the clothing. I think it adds real character to a brand.

With their latest range, Jack Wills are celebrating British wool and their AW17 collection only contains wool from Britain. The UK has over 60 different breeds of sheep, which is more than any other country. One sheep creates enough wool for 3 suits and so it was lovely to browse their latest pieces and see the use of natural wool. Also, they had decorated the store with lots of little sheep, which were super cute and I definitely fell in love with them!

I was really impressed with a lot of the pieces in the Jack Wills AW17 collection - I could definitely have spent a lot of money in there that night. In particular, I had my eye on some of their jackets and I think they would be perfect for Autumn time. It was so nice to be able to share the evening with fellow bloggers and to get their views on the new pieces. We then finished off the night with a trip to Wagamama - an old favourite.

I had such a lovely evening at the Wool & Whiskey Night as part of Wool Week and The Campaign for Wool. A huge thank you to Jack Wills for inviting me, I'll definitely be going back into store soon to pick up some items from the range.

Glossier | Review

Wednesday, 11 October 2017

I was recently in New York and knew I had to make a trip to the Glossier Showroom as they'd yet to come to the UK by this point. Initially, this post was going to be a review of the products I'd bought from Glossier, but a brand is so much more than their products. Customer service is also super important and can really make or break a brand.

The Glossier Showroom in New York is amazing, there's so much room to play and I spent ages trying to decide which products to buy. Eventually I settled on 3 Balm Dotcoms as they were 3 for $30. I was so excited by the bag and packaging I was given, I didn't want to open it until I got back to the UK, to ensure it was all in tact. What a mistake that was! Once I got home, I realised that I'd been given one wrong Balm Dotcom, I'd wanted Rose, Coconut and Birthday, but instead of Birthday (which was my favourite) I had been given Mint. I was so disappointed and as I was back in the UK, I assumed it was a lost cause. However, I thought I'd try my luck and took to Twitter to contact Glossier. The lady I spoke to was super lovely and instantly said she'd send me the Birthday Balm Dotcom. I was super excited when my parcel arrived and my excitement grew, when I realised they'd also sent me the Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser - one of their most popular products. I'd actually picked this up in store, but hadn't bought it, so I was so pleased when they sent it. Their customer service was amazing, they dealt with my request and issue so quickly and in such a swift manner, updating me on when the product had been shipped and when to expect it etc and on top of that, they sent me a complimentary Milk Jelly Cleanser!

What do I think of the products?

Balm Dotcom
If you're a follower of my blog, you'll know how much I love and rave about the Nuxe Reve de Miel, so it would take a lot for me to rate another lip balm so highly, but I think I might have found it. The Balm Dotcoms are so nourishing on the lips and they actually last a long time. They all smell incredible, but the Birthday Lip Balm is my favourite. Also, it has hints of glitter in it, which I absolutely love! Once applied, the Balm Dotcoms don't feel at all tacky on the lips and help prevent them from drying, which is so important at the time of year. They're one of the cheaper Glossier products, so if you're looking for an entry point into the brand, I really recommend them. They're such a fun lip balm!

Milk Jelly Cleanser
As I mentioned, the Milk Jelly Cleanser is such a bonus product for me and I'd heard such good reviews of it so I was super excited to see what it was like for myself. It didn't disappoint. I was a little sceptical at first as I thought the consistency might be a bit thick for a cleanser, but it's actually perfect. I apply it after having removed my make up and it makes my skin feel so clean and healthy. You can apply it to wet or dry skin, but I much prefer applying it to wet skin. It leaves my skin feeling so hydrated and soft and I've been reaching for this more than any of my other cleansers. I can really see why so many people are raving about the Milk Jelly Cleanser, it really is as good as the reviews say it is.

Now that Glossier has come to the UK, I'm seeing more and more people mentioning them and buying their products. My experience of not only their products, but their customer service has been amazing. They really know how to look after their customers and I can't wait to get my hands on more of their products!

Have you tried any Glossier products? What do you think of them?

Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care | Review

Sunday, 8 October 2017

I always love trying new hair care products and discovering brands I've never used before. Therefore, when I was offered the chance to try the new Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care range, I jumped at the chance. I've tried a few of Palmer's body care range and loved them, so I was keen to see what their hair care offered. Over the past few weeks, I've been washing my hair with the Palmer's Coconut Oil Conditioning Shampoo and then I've been using the Palmer's Coconut Oil Repairing Conditioner. Once I've washed my hair, I've then been applying the Palmer's Coconut Oil Strong Roots Spray to the roots of my hair before styling it for the day ahead.

The Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care range includes Tiaré Petal Infused Tahitian Monoï which nourishes hair. Drying my hair with a hairdryer on a regular basis as well as frequently curling my hair means that it can soon become damaged. Therefore, I love how nourishing this range is as it really helps my hair to feel so hydrated. After I've washed my hair with the Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care products, my hair feels so healthy, really soft and it smells incredible! I love the coconut scent and I love that my hair smells so nice and fresh after I've washed it. Also, I've found that my hair doesn't get as greasy as quickly with these products compared to other brands of shampoo and conditioner I've used. Also, I love how creamy the Conditioning Shampoo and Repairing Conditioner are, I really feel like they're nourishing my hair.

The Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care is ethically and reliably sourced and contains high levels of fatty acids which in turn further help lock in moisture, hydrating the hair. Not only that, but the range of products are free from Sulphates, Parabens, Mineral Oils, Phthalates, Gluten, GMOs, Dyes and Harsh Chemicals. Increasingly, I am becoming more conscious of the products I am using on my hair and skin, so knowing that the ingredients in the Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care are ethical and not damaging is exactly the kind of products I want to incorporate into my hair care regime.

I am definitely going to be using the Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Care range in my everyday hair care routine because I love how healthy they make my hair feel and look. If you suffer from dry or damaged hair, I really recommend these products, plus they're really reasonably priced, what's not to love?

BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette | Review

Friday, 6 October 2017

As  a beauty lover, I’m always on the lookout for new products and when I saw that BECCA had released a new face palette with Chrissy Teigen, I was keen to get my hands on it. I’ve been a fan of  BECCA products for ages and have the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed - Champagne Pop which I reviewed here. I’ve wanted a face palette from BECCA for a while and so I thought the BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Palette would be amazing. When I was in America last month, I spotted this in Sephora and as it’s limited edition, I knew I had to get my hands on it quickly. I had the sudden panic that they were out of stick because the shelf was empty, however a very lovely assistant found one in the stock room, which I was super pleased about and I knew it was a sign that I just had to buy it!

What do I think about the BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette?

I love it! As I mentioned, I’ve wanted a palette like this for some time. I think they all look so beautiful and it's so practical having a bronzer, highlighter and blusher all in one place. I seem to spend a lot of my weekends away and so if I have to pack fewer make up products that's always useful!

All of these powders are super pigmented! When I first used it, I accidentally applied too much bronzer as I hadn't expected it to be quite so pigmented! The bronzer is really lovely as it's shimmery and all the previous bronzers I've used have been matte, so it's great to use a bronzer that provides a glowing look. With the two gorgeous highlighters, I only need to apply a small amount to a fan brush and then sweep it over my cheekbones to provide a glow to my skin. Finally, I only apply a small amount of the blusher across the apples of my cheeks, completing my glowy, healthy skin look.

As these products are so pigmented, they last all day on my skin. I always apply a primer, foundation, concealer and powder before and they create the perfect base for the Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette. I've found that I only need to apply the products in the morning and then I don't need to re apply throughout the day - which is perfect!

I must admit, I think the packaging is one of my favourite things about the Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette. It feels so premium and is so sturdy. The powders are set into a metal palette and the rose gold colour is so gorgeous and like most other bloggers, I'm a sucker for all things rose gold, so I knew I needed to have it! As I mentioned earlier, I plan on using this palette for when I'm travelling and the sturdy packaging gives me the reassurance that the packaging will protect the powders.

At £46, it's not the cheapest glow palette in the world, but for me the quality outweighs the cost. I know that the products last on my skin for the whole day and it's super practical to take away with me. Plus the fact, I know that BECCA products are always so worth the money and I'd be lying if I didn't say the limited edition element also had me hooked!

I love the Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette and it's as beautiful as you'd expect it to be. Whilst a little pricey, I definitely think it's worth it and have been enjoying trying different looks with it. Have you tried the Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette? I'd love to know your thoughts.

September Favourites

Sunday, 1 October 2017

I'm back! I took a bit of a break from blogging as my life was getting crazy busy. I always promise myself that if I'm not enjoying blogging, I must take a break, otherwise it won't continue to be a hobby, but instead it'll be a chore. However, having been away for a while, it was hard to think of what my first post back should be. I finally settled on my September favourites, as I love sharing these monthly posts and letting you all know what I've been enjoying. September was a very busy month, but I had two weeks off work, so it gave me plenty of opportunities to experiment with and fall in love with new beauty products.

I bought this a month or so ago after someone had recommended The Body Shop serums to me. I had originally gone in for one from their Vitamin E range, but was told they were discontinuing it. Instead, I was shown the Vitamin C Skin Reviver and thought it was worth a try. I have absolutely been loving it. It feels so nice to apply and really helps to make my skin look more healthy and radiant as well as helping my make up to stay in place all day. I can't get enough of it, I'll definitely be going back and buying another one once I finish this one.

I couldn't not feature this in my monthly favourites. My last post was actually a full review of it, so make sure you check that out. I've been reaching for this palette more than any other this month. I love how many different looks I can create with it and I absolutely love the shade range, it's definitely my new favourite palette. I've been really enjoying looking up different make-up looks using this palette on Pinterest and trying them out on myself.

O2 priority had an offer that if you spent over £30 on the Benefit website, you received a free Hoola minis set. The Hoola Quickie Contour Stick came as part of the set and originally I wasn't sure if I'd use it. However, I gave it a try and have been really impressed. I can really see how it adds definition to my cheek bones and it's so easy to use I'm definitely going to purchase the full size once this one runs out.

I featured this product in my Beauty Wishlist post and my friend Sarah saw and mentioned that's she had the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Ombre Mercure, but had found it too sticky on her eyelids so didn't like using it. Therefore, she very kindly gave it to me to see if I would like it. Whilst I do see what she means about the stickiness, for me it only lasts for the initial few minutes of wearing it and then I never notice it on my skin. I love using it, it's super easy to pop onto my eyelids if I'm in a rush and can't be bothered with a full eye make up look.

I don't want to go on too much about this here because I want to write up a full review of this product, but I couldn't not feature this in my September favourites. I bought it whilst I was away as I'd wanted a BECCA highlight palette for a while and never been able to get my hands on it. Everything about it is beautiful and I've been wearing it non stop since I bought it. As I mentioned, I'll do a full review soon, so keep your eyes peeled on that.

So that's everything I've been loving throughout September, what have you been loving this month?
